abstract art in everyday life
It is rare to do better in abstraction than the spontaneous and involuntary art that we come into contact with every day.
Torn posters, layers of glue, overlapping materials, peeled, paint deposits on paint that round the edges and create rough surfaces. Variegated colors of mold and rising damp. Cracks of corroded, distressed and dilated materials.
Much of abstract art is due to these random events and to observing with a careful and ready eye the particular properties of bitumen, iron, mold, wood, earth, mortar, clay, glues, etc.
They are materials constructed by man and they present uncertain and undefined behaviors, they change over time, with heat and light. They are the waste of chemical and mechanical processes or manufacturing. They seem to contain a soul and a will, a certain capacity to self-express and define themselves.
Walking through the streets of my city Arezzo, I am always amazed by the power of these images, I have always wondered if it is possible to use them in a new and original way. Some ideas have come to mind like dreams, and films projected in smoke but for now nothing usable. I wait confidently.
Raramente si riesce a fare di meglio nell’astrattismo rispetto all’arte spontanea e involontaria con cui si viene a contatto tutti i giorni.
Manifesti lacerati, strati di colle, materiali sovrapposti, decorticati, depositi di vernice su vernice che arrotondano gli spigoli e creano superfici rugose. Colori variegati di muffe ed umidità di risalita. Cretti di materiali corrosi e dilatati.
Molto dell’astrattismo è dovuto a questi eventi casuali e all’osservare con occhio attento e pronto le proprietà particolari di catrami, ferro, muffe, legno, terra, malta, creta, colle ecc.
Sono materiali costruiti dall’uomo che presentano dei comportamenti incerti e non definiti, mutano nel tempo, con il calore e la luce. Sono gli scarti di lavorazioni o processi chimici e meccanici. Sembrano racchiudere un anima e una volotà un certa capacità di autoesprimersi e outodefinirsi.
Camminando per le strade della mia città Arezzo, mi meraviglio sempre dalla forza di queste immagini, mi sono sempre chiesto se sia possibile usarle in un modo nuovo ed originale. Alcune idee mi sono venute in mente come sogni, e film proiettati nel fumo ma per ora niente di concreto. Aspetto fiducioso.
